About the Building & Neighborhood:
This triplex is a short block¹ from the beach in one of the most coveted areas of Marina del Rey "MdR," called the Ocean Strand, also known as the Marina Peninsula. The Ocean Strand is a narrow strip of land between the Pacific Ocean and the Grand Canal. The aerial photos below help illustrate.
We absolutely fell in love with Lighthouse Street because it is so bright, open, and pedestrian-friendly and is the only one on the peninsula with a pedestrian bridge across the "Grand Canal" (AKA the Ballona Lagoon Marine Preserve) designed by Abbot Kinney. Views from this building are predominantly of the grand canal, as shown at the top of this page.
Take a daily walk from your doorstep to the beachfront boardwalk along this broad stretch of beach just south of the bustle of Venice. Hike the Ballona Lagoon Marine Reserve Trail along the Grand Canal right across the street. For a walking map of Marina del Rey, click here and notice how the self-guided "Peninsula" walking tour goes right past 29 Lighthouse.
To venture to the "wilder" local scene, take the leisurely 12-minute walk on the coastal "Speedway" (formerly an informal drag strip but now just a small, slow, one-way road shared with bikes & pedestrians) to Washington Boulevard in Venice, with a great assortment of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and (my favorite) Cold Stone Creamery. With the walking bridge right out front, it's also a short walk or bike ride to your yacht (or paddleboard) in the marina, where additional dining & shopping options greet you. For frequent travelers, this beach paradise is just a 15-minute drive from LAX international airport or Loyola Marymount University (LMU).
